Almost all Ukrainian nouns have the category of number, that is singular and plural.
In general the plural form is made by adding the vowel "и", "і", "а" or "я" to the stem of the noun (the main part of the word without its ending).

All feminine and masculine nouns with a stem ending in a hard consonant add "-и" to form the plural.
студент - студенти
студентка - студентки
інженер - інженери
кімната - кімнати

All feminine and masculine nouns with a stem ending in a soft consonant or letters "й", "ж", "ч", "ш", "щ", "ц" form the plural by adding "-і" or "-ї"
вулиця - вулиці
перекладач - перекладачі
вчитель - вчителі
музей - музеї
вірш - вірші

All neuter nouns ending in "-о" or "-е" form the plural by adding "-а" or "-я" respectively.
вікно - вікна
місто - міста
поле - поля
прізвище - прізвища

Some Ukrainian nouns in the plural form drop a vowel preceding the ending.
українець - українці
будинок - будинки

Some irregular plural forms:
друг - друзі
квітка - квіти
дитина - діти
ім'я - імена
мати - матері
людина - люди

Nouns that have only singular form:
життя, любов, волосся
most abstract nouns

Nouns that have only plural form:
двері, меблі, окуляри, ворота
